My yorkshire weekend

2 min read

Love is in the air 365 days a year for Sarah Richardson, owner of wedding and events florist, Leafy Couture. When she’s not busy in her workshop in Arthington, she tells us how she spends her downtime in Yorkshire

How I spend my days

As director of a busy wedding and event florists and flower school, and with two kids at home, no two days are the same! I am usually knee-deep in flowers with my wonderful team. I do the school run, head to the workshop to chat to the team about the day ahead then we all flower on! In summer months, I love walking in the evenings on the Chevin in Otley where I live. In the winter, it's long baths and box sets.

Friday nights - cocktails or chill?

I can't go too crazy if it’s a wedding eve but cocktails are my go-to for something special. My fave is a basil grande. It has black pepper, blackberry liquor, vodka, fresh strawberries and orange liqueur. We sat on the doorstep in lockdown with the neighbours drinking cocktails and it has continued!

Saturday morning – Parkrun or papers?

Saturdays are usually up with the larks flying all over Yorkshire setting up weddings, I love being up before everyone else setting the stage for a wedding. We are in churches filling them with blooms or in marquees adding the final touches. I am usually ready for a nap on a Saturday afternoon as the adrenaline from a wedding set-up is crazy.

Feeding time?

My fave place near home is Buon Apps a fantastic Italian restaurant in Otley by the river. I adore the rich seafood stew and the antipasto. If we are venturing further my heart belongs to Little Tokyo in Leeds - the bento boxes are the best and the salad dressing is amazing!

Retail therapy?

I love to trawl antique and charity shops for vintage pottery, I have a thing for gold teapots. I love wandering around Salts Mill, especially the books and antiques shop. I love to shop indie where I can and love Covet in Ilkley for homewares and gifts, Born
