The highlights of this year’s Great Yorkshire Show programme

Pole Climbing Championships: Located in the Forestry Section, watch in awe as climbers race to the top of two 100ft Douglas Fir poles in mere seconds!

Cattle: An opportunity to admire some of the country’s best beef and dairy cows as Beef Shorthorn, Charolais, and Longhorn Cattle Societies all host their national competitions at this year’s show.

GYS Stage: Join the wonderful Christine Talbot at the GYS Stage as she chats to some of the nation’s favourites including Matt Baker MBE, Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, and Peter Wright of The Yorkshire Vet. Find out more on page 41.

‘Sheep to Chic’ Fashion Show: Taking place on the sheep shearing stage at 12.30pm every day, Bernadette Gledhill has co-ordinated 12 amateur models to join the professionals as they step out in style to highlight the link between the sheep around us and the wool we wear.

The Innovation Zone: New for this year – hosted by the Farmer Scientist Network. Step into high-tech modern farming with the opportunity to view the very latest in agricultural innovations.

Methane-powered tractor: Russells are bringing something very exciting to the show this year with the New Holland T6 Methane Tractor. Learn all about the world’s first 100 per cent methane-powered tractor over at the Discovery Zone.

The Equine Rings: There’s lots of exciting things happening in the equine section this year with the return of the popular show jumping classes, as well as the introduction of traditional cobs and Connermara ponies.

Sheepdogs: Proving to be extremely popular last year, there’s now a dedicated area over by the Gold Gate where there will be displays throughout the show. Catch ‘Sheep to Chic’ model Tom Simpson competing with his own dogs.
