One of the friendliest breeds of cat, the Ragdoll, is an ideal companion.

The Ragdoll cat is a truly remarkable breed known for its striking appearance and gentle personality. Often described as docile, sweet-natured, and incredibly affectionate, the Ragdoll has gained popularity among cat lovers around the world. This breed’s unique features and charming temperament make it a favourite choice for many households.

Originating in the 1960s in California, the Ragdoll cat breed was created by Ann Baker, a breeder who aimed to develop a feline companion with a relaxed temperament and stunning looks. She achieved this by selectively breeding cats with desirable traits, including gentle personalities, large size, and striking blue eyes. The breed’s name,“Ragdoll,” reflects their tendency to go limp and relax completely when picked up, just like a child’s ragdoll toy.

APPEARANCE

One of the most distinguishing features of the Ragdoll is its physical appearance. This breed is large and muscular, with males weighing between 15 to 20 pounds and females typically ranging from 10 to 15 pounds. They have a semi-long, silky coat that comes in various colours and patterns, including seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, flame, cream, and tortoiseshell. Ragdolls have striking blue eyes that are round and expressive, enhancing their overall beauty.

CHARACTER

Aside from their captivating appearance, Ragdolls are known for their gentle and affectionate nature. They are often described as puppy-like cats due to their fondness for following their human companions around the house and their tendency to greet them at the door. Ragdolls thrive on human attention, and are known to enjoy being held and cuddled. They are also sociable with other pets and typically get along well with children, making them an excellent choice for families.
