Great Dane’s are a fascinating and lovable breed. They are a majestic breed known for their remarkable size and friendly demeanour.

Originating from Germany, these dogs were bred for hunting boars, a task that required their massive size and strength… but their gentle nature has made them beloved companions.

Great Danes are characterised by their massive build, sleek coat, and distinctive, expressive faces, and despite their imposing stature, they are affectionate, loyal, and often referred to as ‘gentle giants’ due to their calm and friendly nature.

They come in a variety of coat colours, including fawn, brindle, blue, black, and harlequin (white with irregular black patches). Their coat is short and smooth, requiring minimal grooming. Males can typically reach at least 30 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 140 to 175 pounds.

Great Danes are very eager to please making them a relatively easy dog to train. They will need ample space and exercise to accommodate their size, but in return, they offer unparalleled loyalty and companionship to those fortunate enough to share their lives with these magnificent dogs.

WHAT’S IT LIKE LIVING WITH A GREAT DANE?

Living with a Great Dane is fun – it’s like living with a very large toddler, who is clumsy, gets the zoomies, and wants to go everywhere with you. He wants to be everyone’s friend (dog and human). Owning a Dane, is knowing that people and other dogs may initially be wary of him, because he is so big. Its saying over and over again that he is a gentle giant -
even though he might have a deep bark. Its pretending to laugh at every "WOW is that a small horse!?" joke. However, I would never want to own another breed, because when he looks into my eyes, I know he understands me.” Sarah P.

“Great Danes are your second shadow; as where you are is where they want to be. Mine has her own leather chair which she loves to cross her paws and listen to me tell her about my day and I believe she really understands – because when I’m having a bad day, she wants hugs… My old girl is nine-years-old and has so much soul in her eyes!” Tonia S.
