Inspired design

I have always been inspired by the furniture makeovers in Your Home, so when I needed a small set of drawers for my lounge, I found some paint and drawers on Facebook Marketplace and set about sanding and painting! I’m really pleased with how it turned out and thank you for the inspiration. @julesj_my_thrifted_home, Instagram

Mel, editor, says: You’re right to be pleased, Jules! This makeover is gorgeous and it looks perfectly at home in your beautiful living room.

Holiday hooks

I enjoyed your ideas for wooden coat racks (March issue) and thought I’d share ours. My husband and I sourced coat hooks from our travels – so they would bring us good memories of trips with friends. We then purchased a lovely piece of ash from a local farmer. After cutting it, we created a support for the hooks with one half and a shelf with the other. It all brings us such joy every day. Rebecca, digital editor, says: What a brilliant idea, Sarah-Jane. We’ve never thought of picking up coat hooks as souvenirs, but this is much more practical than fridge magnets!

Poster perfect

I picked up a shiny white chest in a charity shop. I bought a poster and roughly tore its edges so they wouldn’t show then, stuck it on the front of the chest with PVA. I had a bit of trouble getting it into the bevels! I painted it with Frenchic paint and pulled the green out, past the torn edges and they don’t show at all. Jill Kelly, Lowestoft

Beth, creative designer, says: This is such a Romantic make, Jill. You’re so clever to have thought of ripping the edges to stop the design looking ‘stuck on’. I’ll be copying this technique myself!
