Our pick of the best festive fayre to celebrate in style this Christmas

Turkey alternatives

WAITROSE £22.50 per kg

For those who aren’t lovers of turkey, this melt-in-the-mouth lamb has a sweet cherry glaze, carves beautifully and would be perfect served with the traditional festive dinner veg or with a creamy potato gratin or cauliflower cheese and greens.

Extra Special Chicken Crown with Blossom Honey, Lemon, Thyme & Roast Chestnut Stuffing,

ASDA £15 per kg

This free-range chicken crown for 3-4 people is great for smaller festive dining. The chestnut stuffing is flavoursome, and the bacon ensures the joint stays moist and carves easily. Delicious with lashings of rich chicken gravy and a chilled white wine.

M&S £20 /800g

This will go down well with vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Decadent, so a little goes a long way, it’s packed with a rich Brie, sweet butternut squash, carrots, pearl barley and mushroom, and the butter puff pastry is to die for. Goes well with roasties, veggies and a tangy cranberry sauce.

Fish dishes

TESCO £5

This was a revelation! A pomegranate and prosecco jelly base, topped with a salmon mousse, prosecco Marie Rose sauce and a mix of smoked salmon and hot smoked salmon on top to give it some texture. The jelly is piquant and tangy, which is a great pairing with the rich fish. This would be a good light pre-cursor to a heavier main. It’s pre ‐portioned too, which means it can go straight onto the table.

WAITROSE £7

These are just so pretty with a glistening gold shimmer and great detail on the scales. A stylish base to build a platter around and the mouse itself is light and tasty.

Wow desserts
