Avon angels

♦ I read in issue 444 that Avon is going to be in shops.

Convenient for many people but I still have a lovely Avon lady who calls on me regularly.

Fortunately at the moment I can still do my own shopping, but I have friends who cannot and look forward to having visits from these dedicated ladies – long may it last.

It doesn’t measure up

♦ I’d like to ask other Yours readers how they manage to measure teaspoons of ginger, mixed spice, cinnamon, etc, from the jars. I find it impossible, the teaspoon measuring spoons do not fit in the jars.

Why do manufacturers make the jars so narrow? Obviously none of them bake.

Switching tricks

♦ With regard to your article in issue 445 about switching energy suppliers, like Lesley Rackley I too switched suppliers from BT to Sky and saved quite a lot of money with an 18-month contract.

At 81 I am not quite as tech savvy as others and, unfortunately, did not check up on the date my contract with BT expired. This resulted in my having to pay a charge to BT. Sky will reimburse some of the BT charge, but what a hassle to sort this out.

It would be good to remind readers to make sure they know when their contract is coming to an end before they make a switch and to keep any receipts after sending equipment back. I’m being asked by BT to return an item of equipment I’ve already returned. Fortunately I do have the receipt of posting. Seems as if nothing is simple these days!

We need a sign of the times

♦ I realised one day that the road signs stating drivers should slow down because old people are in the vicinity are actually quite offensive. The reason I say this is because these signs depict elderly people bent over and using walking canes. Most elderly folk are as energetic as much younger people. They don’t even see themselves as being old.

I think we need signs, of course, to advise drivers to slow down for those people who need a bit of time to cross the road. But there are all ages who need this consideration, not just the old.
