Stuttering speech
Gwyneth Paltrow won the Best Actress statuette for Shakespeare In Love in 1999. Stuttering and crying through her acceptance speech, she thanked everyone from then-boyfriend Ben Affleck to now-disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
In focus
It’s a decade since 2014 host Ellen DeGeneres decided to do an Oscar selfie, featuring Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts – and promptly broke the internet.
Drunk Olivia
Brit fave Olivia Colman was hilarious as she accepted her Best Actress award for The Favourite in 2019. Shouting “Lady Gaga!” and pointing at the pop star halfway through her speech. She later joked she was drunk, telling Graham Norton she “couldn’t remember it”.
History maker Halle
Halle Berry made history as the first black woman ever to win Best Actress – for her superb performance in Monster’s Ball – and she got suitably emotional as she accepted the award. We normally find an onstage blub-fest a bit much, but in her case, we say it was fully justified.
Field of dreams
Going back nearly 40 years now, Sally Field’s infamous “You like me!” speech from 1985 continues to be one of our favourites. The star won the accolade for her role in Places In The Heart, the second movie she picked up a Best Actress award for. In 2013, she also bagged Best Supporting Actress for Lincoln.
Slap happy
“Keep my wife’s name out your f**king mouth,” screamed Will Smith at 2022 Oscars host Chris Rock, before slapping him in the face – taking the shine off Smith’s first-ever Oscar win, which was awkwardly announced minutes later.
