Lesley Reynolds from the Harley Street Skin Clinic reveals how you can sculpt your body

The sun is shining and Summer is approaching fast! That means beach, bikinis and baring your body. If you’re dreading the idea of it as much as me, stop worrying, because fat zapping has never been easier or more sophisticated if you are curious about this option.

Diet and exercise are always the first route to go down. If you are overweight, seek help from your GP and a nutritionist. Follow a healthy diet and exercise, start walking every day, and build up gradually.

However, sometimes we all need a bit more help, and the latest treatments can help sculpt your shape. While some procedures are a one-off, some require a course of four to six sessions for maximum results, so you need to factor this time in, plus any potential recovery time. Most of the treatments will also need upkeep – once the course is finished, you’ll need a session every few months to maintain results. Here’s the lowdown.

Bra bulge and back fat

For that extra fat that appears under your arms, which can be uncomfortable and stop your bra sitting flat, BodyTite is a good option. This procedure uses advanced technology called RFAL, short for Radio Frequency Assisted Liposuction, and is a one-off treatment that removes fat and tightens skin. It breaks down fat cells, which are removed with microsuction, and as they are removed, the area is flatter. Meanwhile, the heat generated by a high frequency current during the process helps to boost collagen to tighten the skin. The process can remove up to three litres of fat in one session, so you’ll see immediate results that continue over a six-month period, as new collagen formation leads to the skin tightening. Expect bruising and swelling, and you will need to wear a compression garment for three to six weeks, and no exercise for two weeks. Costs from £4,000.

REMEMBER

Contouring treatments are not a solution for weight issues. They work well for isolated areas, such as love handles, abdomen, bingo wings and thighs. All treatments work better and maintain longer if you have a healthy diet, have regular exercise, drink water and antioxidant-rich green tea which can help boost metabolism.

Saddlebags

Those pesky bulges at the top of the legs are difficult to get rid of with exercise and diet alone. Enter the Osmo Therm 21, a combination of Cryo, heat and electrical power, a therapeutic treatment for the removal of fat without cutting. Osmo Therm creates a thermal shock, by reducing the temperature in the fat cells. This process is called apoptosis, which results in a gradual degeneration and elimination of dead fat cells, and by activating the fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, there is a natural skin-tightening effect. The treatment is short (30-40mins) but it can take around two
