ECOJIKO PLASTIC-FREE SCOURERS

Currently, our reviewer’s cat has an obsession with scourer sponges – no, we can’t really explain it either – which means

unless they are locked away, they end up mauled on the floor and have to be chucked away prematurely. In an effort to find a more environmentally friendly option, we came across these Ecojiko scourers.

They’re made from cellulose and sisal. Like a conventional washing-up sponge, they have a soft side for general cleaning and an abrasive side for more stubborn dirt.

Katy, the owner of Ecojiko, actually tests all the products – the brand offers a range of eco-friendly cleaning and kitchen products – out in her campervan.

According to the blurb, because of the natural components, the sponges are less likely to smell and should last longer than their plastic-based counterparts.

They are also fully biodegradable and will leave no trace of microplastics in the water system. Plus, they are posted out in cardboard and biodegradable packaging.

FRANCE PASSION

Many readers will know about the annual France Passion stopover guide and, if you’re one of those readers then all you need to know is that the latest edition is out now, costing €33 (£29.27) for the year.

But, if you’re new to campervanning or thinking of heading over to France for the first time, then this guide (and the supporting handy app) lists over 2,200 free stopovers in France and 230 new ones have been added this year.

These are no ordinary stopovers (like the community-owned aires), as they're located on farms, vineyards and crafty businesses. Your campervan needs to be fully self-contained as there are often no facilities. You also can’t pre-book so, if they are full, you’ll need to move onto another stopover. There are some other conditions, too, such as introducing yourself on arrival and leaving the site clean.

You need to buy the guide each year to continue using the stopovers, but this 2024 one is valid until May 2025.

Do you struggle to get your ’van level? One answer, of course, is an expensive automatic levelling system, while others just gauge it by eye – something that some folk struggle with, judging by the severely sloping ’vans we’ve seen!
