Engine timing belts (cambelts) have a specified life – either in mileage or date – whichever comes first. Each carmaker will give recommended change interval, so check on your engine’s specifications. Changing timing belts (or chains) can be difficult without locking tools (impossible in some instances), and on some engines the tools can be expensive to purchase, so undertake some procedure checks prior to a belt change.
