Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s framing of a Taiwan contingency as a threat to Japan’s survival is seen as a direct challenge to the post-WWII order (P.14-17). British professor Richard Overy has re-examined the World War II as a global war of imperialism that started with Japan’s invasion of Northeast China in 1931, as reflected in his book Blood and Ruins: The Last Imperial War, 1931-1945 (P.18-21). Gaming and online addictions have an increasing hold on young Chinese, straining family relationships (P. 26-27) and leading to a growing industry of online gurus and harsh ‘correction’ camps that feed on parents’ anxieties for digital detox (P.28-31).
