After a turbulent few months for Holly Alison Hammond, insiders reveal the TV favourite fears that some people are “trying to tear her down”

The past year has seen Alison Hammond catapulted to TV royalty in her This Morning presenting role – fast becoming a fan favourite and championed by viewers for her sense of humour and ability to relate to her audience.

But while February saw the TV presenter’s career peak when she hosted the BAFTAs as a presenter alongside Richard E Grant, Alison’s rise to superstardom has more recently been plagued by personal turmoil. Last month she was forced to report a former friend, who had allegedly blackmailed her for thousands of pounds and threatened to “destroy” her reputation by leaking false stories.

BACKLASH

The ordeal came just two months after she had split from her boyfriend of two years, Ben Hawkins. And while she came back fighting, covering for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby’s Easter break on the show, the star was hit with more controversy when she unwittingly sparked a backlash during a debate on air. Sharing her disbelief that audience members would no longer be able to sing along at musicals, Alison joked, “I can’t believe it. I’d be devastated.”

Alison’s comments triggered an uproar, and she later issued a lengthy apology on Twitter, saying, “I want to apologise to anyone who I offended, especially the incredibly talented theatre performers, who I have the utmost respect for.” She added, “I had no idea the level of disruption audiences were causing and tried to make light of the topic on Wednesday’s show, and for that I’m truly sorry.”
