Shockingly, Janie, 28, was regularly sleeping with the groom – and was also in love with the bride. In fact, the three of them had been a throuple, but in secret, for seven years.
She says, “Everyone thought I was just their best friend, which was hard. They kept checking in on me to make sure I was OK, but while I was happy for them on their special day, I really wanted to be open about our relationship.”
The threesome now live happily together – and Maggie and Cody are “engaged” to Janie.
She explains, “We won’t be able to marry legally. But we plan on holding a wedding ceremony to show what we mean to each other – so I’ll finally get my own big day!”
Janie, who works in marketing, met Maggie, 29, and Cody, 33, on a specialist online dating site in November 2016. Janie was nervous as she went to meet the couple – but it wasn’t a completely new experience for her.
AWKWARD
She says, “I’d had threesome dates before and so had Maggie and Cody. We shared a few drinks and found that we got along well. At the end of the evening, we went back to Cody’s flat and spent the night together. It was amazing.”
The couple messaged Janie again just a few days later, and soon they began seeing each other regularly.
“I was surprised to learn they’d been together for under a year,” says Janie. “They already seemed so close.”
After a few months, Maggie, who works for an interior design librarian, invited Janie to join her family for Sunday dinner, and it wasn’t long before she became a regular guest.
“It was a bit awkward when Maggie’s dad asked how we’d all met! But I respected that Maggie and Cody wanted to keep their sex life private. Not everyone approves,” admits Janie.
The three continued to grow closer, and eventually Maggie and Cody, a salesman for a countertop company, asked Janie to be their girlfriend. None of them had a framework for a three-way relationship, so they had to find their own way of balancing the dynamic.
