REAL LIFE

Zania Robinson’s first date with Jordan turned out to be one she’d never forget…

As she lay on the wet ground, with blood seeping from her face, the pain soared through Zania Robinson’s entire body. Just a few moments earlier she’d been enjoying a walk up a beautiful waterfall on a first date with a handsome man. As the rain began pouring down, Zania and her beau Jordan Bennett had struggled to make it down the slippery waterfall, and as they picked up speed, she slid off the cliff edge – face first.

Jordan tried to rescue her but slipped over the edge too. Zania was knocked out but he roused her and helped her up, before they could raise the alarm with another couple. They eventually made it to a hospital, where Zania was told her lungs were bruised and she had multiple fractures in her spine. Jordan was treated for fractures in both his shoulders too.

But the bad news didn’t end there – during Jordan’s recovery he was given the devastating news that he had stage three stomach cancer. Thankfully, after chemotherapy and surgery, he was given the all-clear, and the couple have just celebrated their one-year anniversary. Zania says,

Zania recalls, “We made it to the top of the waterfall and took in the beautiful views. Then, Jordan leant in for a kiss. It felt like the perfect date! We snapped some pictures to remember the moment but then a storm started brewing, so Jordan suggested we begin heading back.”

But within minutes, the wind had picked up, it started pouring with rain and the ground became very slippery. Zania explains, “We began heading through the woods, but the trail was too steep. And then it struck me… we were stuck on top of a rock with a 40ft drop.”

They sat and shuffled down the path, but soon began to slip. Zania says, “I turned onto my stomach and grabbed at the ground, desperate to cling on to anything that could stop me falling. But there was nothing – instead, I was picking up speed. I saw that Jordan had managed to cling on to someth
