S excitedly preparing for the birth of her second child, but Kate Ferdinand was left in shock last week after an intruder attempted to break into her and husband Rio’s home, with the former footballer tackling the prowler after finding him in the garden.

Breaking her silence on the terrifying ordeal, Kate – who has been on a promotional trail for her new book How To Build A Family – assured presenter Lorraine Kelly that they are “all safe and well”.

But despite putting on a brave face, an insider says that Kate, 31, has been left reeling from the incident and feels extremely vulnerable, particularly as she is pregnant. “Kate has been in absolute pieces and her friends fear she’ll need some time and help to get over it all,” a source tells Closer. “While everyone is grateful that Rio was able to spring into action and protect his wife and kids, Kate has said she never wants to be left alone. It has made her feel really vulnerable.
