An ode to socks

They are the light of my life – and no, I’m not exaggerating

Confession: I wore only no-show socks up until like two years ago. I had a ton of those neutral ones that supposedly cover the tips of your toes and supposedly stay hidden. (PSA: they never do. They bunch up under your arches, or just slide off altogether. In case it’s not clear, they are terrible.)

But then – dramatic pause – last winter, I got a pair of calf-high patent-leather boots that rubbed against my bare legs so much it felt like I had shin splints. (To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve actually ever had shin splints, but this seems like an apt description of my pain?) So I caved and bought pink crew socks – you know, the ones between ankle and knee length – to make the hellish friction stop. And the more I wore them, the more those extra inches of soft cotton seemed to be giving my lower appendages li’l hugs.

My ‘lingerie’ drawer is now all socks in a ton of fresh styles. Tie-dye! Two-tone! Ribbed! Sheer! Metallic! (Just look up and to the right for a taste.) Haters will say I have an unhealthy obsession, but I like to call it a soft spot.
