Make colourful greetings with Kitty Day’s simple method

NEXT LEVEL

Stamping repeat backgrounds can be tricky, but Kitty has found the ultimate craft hack with Taylored Expressions’ stamp and stencil combos. Don’t worry about the positioning, simply stamp the background then use the coordinating stencil on top for colourful effects.

Hugs

Stamp a butterfly background, then use the accompanying stencils with lilac and green inks to create the background. Die-cut a circle and glue it onto a white card base. Mount a circle of striped paper onto black card and glue inside the circle window. Die-cut 'Hugs’ and attach it across the middle. Add a dew drop embellishment to each corner.

Hello

Use the stamps and stencils to create a pink and mint butterfly background, then blend a little pink ink in two of the corners. Cut two corners off the background panel and glue it onto the card. Add a strip of patterned paper to each of those corners along with a very thin strip of black card. Fix a die-cut ‘Hello’ sentiment on the front and add clear bubble embellishments in the two pink corners.

ARE ROCKER CARDS DIFFICULT TO MAKE?

Sarah says... Rocker cards are a fun and simple way to add some movement to your makes, beautifully blurring the line between a standard greeting and interactive card. Die-cut a 15cm circle from white card, then score and fold in half. Die-cut a 14.5cm circle from striped paper, a 9.5cm circle from blue spotty paper and a 10.5cm circle from white card. Cut the striped circle in half and glue to the front panel. Layer the remaining two circles together and attach to the front. Use foam pads to fix a large sentiment across the blue circle and crayon toppers just above. Trim a paint brush and crayon topper to fit along the bottom, then secure in place.

DO I HAVE TO USE SPECIAL DIES TO MAKE SHAPED CARDS?

Keren says... You can make a wonderful, shaped card with specialist dies, but you can also have just as much success with a pencil, ruler and pair of scissors. Think of the shape you’d like to create and try to find the negative parts that need removing to make it. Sketch or measure those parts on your card, snip and there you have it! Simple but strong shapes like diamonds work well, as do most letters.

HOW DO I CREATE LAYERED FLOWERS ON MY CARDS?

Keren says... The technique might be simple, but the results are striking. Using cardstock in a handful of shades and one layering die set, you can bring your blooms to life. If you’re after floral motifs specifically, I recommend the Craft-A-Flower die sets from Altenew
