£10,500 Versatile new high-performance gravel superbike from the Utah brand

BIKE LAUNCH

Hot on the heels of our reigning performance bike of the year, the Enve Melee, comes the MOG. Utah-based brand Enve claims that the MOG (which stands for ‘mother of gravel’) is for riders ‘who like to push the boundaries of distance and rolling exploration’. This means it’s more of an adventurous all-rounder than a fully focused race machine, so it should be as happy taking on transcontinental tours as it is playing in the woods or hammering across the Midwest, gravel’s spiritual home.

1 Primed for gravel The £5,500 frameset bears more than a passing resemblance to the Melee, though it has massive 50mm tyre clearances and hidden storage in the frame via an opening under the down-tube bottle bosses. This Cargo Bay, as Enve calls it, has a 600ml capacity and comes with two neoprene bags to help keep the contents from rattling.

2 Sizes to suit The MOG comes in six frame sizes, from 49 to 60cm, with three rake options to help with handling. This size 56cm bike has a steep 73.5° seat-tube angle plus a long 397mm reach with a low, sporty 587mm stack height to create a speedy position.

3 Superlight frame The frame has a claimed weight of just 950g for a 56cm, very light for a gravel bike and only 90g heavier than the road-going Melee. The frame doesn’t skimp on fittings either, with provision for mudguards, multiple bottles, a top-tube bento box-style bag and multiple mounts on the fork too.
