As summer gets into its stride, wide open spaces and sandy beaches are calling – with fantastic food all the way

Great escape

If you like the camping, food and music vibe, Rock Oyster Festival, held in a sublime spot overlooking the Camel Estuary (right) in north Cornwall, is the weekend away of dreams. The programme includes chef-led masterclasses and barbecue feasts from a line-up including Jack and Rick Stein, Romy Gill and Rosemary Shrager. The music is equally enticing: the Happy Mondays and Laura Mvula headline, with DJs such as Huey Morgan playing beachside into the night. Good times guaranteed (plus some of the country’s best beaches are a hop and a skip away).

Day tickets from £53.50, rockoysterfestival.co.uk

Great food on the road

Amanda Heron and Antonio Paladino at Bioaqua Farm on the Somerset Food Trail

Love seeking out producers and trying artisan products? If so, the Somerset Food Trail (15-24 July) is calling you for a few days of roaming around some of England’s greenest and most fertile land. The festival describes itself as an open-farm showcase featuring a diverse mix of producers – crafty people making cider, buffalo mozzarella, vodka, cheese and more – plus there are orchards to visit and tastings to enjoy. The aim is to give a better understanding of where our food comes from, championing sustainability and buying local. Visit somersetfoodtrail.org for an interactive map and to see all
