It’s been a very busy and exciting few months at GAY TIMES as we prepare to hold our sixth annual celebration of LGBTQ+ community and culture. GAY TIMES Honours 2022 will recognise 10 LGBTQ+ individuals who have had a profound impact across TV, sport, music, drag, activism and fashion over the past 12 months. It’s a moment for us to reflect on the positivity that can too often go overlooked in our community; acknowledge those who are working towards a better future; and revel in the joy of queer culture and community. Throughout 2022 we have been reflecting on the past 50 years since the very first Pride event took place in the UK. But for GAY TIMES Honours 2022, we wanted to look forward. For this year’s event held at Magazine London, we are transporting guests forward 50 years with our Future Queer theme, exploring what queer nightlife and community could look like over the next five decades. It’s a diverse line-up of musicians, drag performers, dance troupes, spoken word performers and inspirational speeches from community figures. This special Honours edition of GAY TIMES Magazine goes through each of this year’s winners, outlining the impact they have made, and how they use their voices and leverage their positions to enact progressive change. Some of these winners you’ll know, but others you may not be aware of. We hope that through reading about their stories and understanding their perspectives, you can learn something new about how we’ve got to this point, but also where we need to go next. We’re going into GAY TIMES Honours 2022 with optimism for a future that holds freedom and peace for all LGBTQ+ people. We are acknowledging the joys and progress we see and experience today – and the small steps of change that we can all contribute to. Our celebration will be unapologetically queer and a moment to enjoy our accomplishments. But it will be done knowing that the future we all want to see is something we all need to fight for, for each other and ourselves.
