Forget Sweet 16. In the era of social media, 13 – the minimum age requirement for apps such as Instagram and TikTok – is the new coming-of-age milestone. And, as Abbey Clancy’s eldest daughter Sophia approaches that day, the model is keen to ensure her launch into the spotlight goes as smoothly as possible.

“Abbey is firmly against her children having social media when they’re too young, but with Sophia turning 13 in March, she’s having to give in,” an insider tells heat. “Sophia has been begging to let her be on Instagram and TikTok for a while, and Abbey knows that if Sophia wants to follow in her footsteps, she needs to build a strong following on social media. It could be a soft launch to introduce her as an influencer with a view to becoming a model when she’s older. Obviously, Abbey would have very tight control over everything she posts.”

Sophia made her modelling debut aged eight, when she starred alongside her mum in a 2019 campaign for Lipsy. After comments that Sophia was too young to model, Abbey, 38, who’s married to football legend Peter Crouch, defended her decision to include her in the shoot on Lorraine, saying, “It was just a bit of fun, it’s not a serious career launch. It was just a lovely day… a nice experience.”
