THE KING PLANTS THE LAST OF THREE MILLION NEW TREES IN HER HONOUR
Nearly two years ago, the then Prince of Wales launched The Queen’s Green Canopy when he planted a tree with his mother at Windsor Castle. Now, seven months after her death, King Charles has marked the end of the project with his son.
His Majesty and the Prince of Wales have planted an acer in the gardens at Sandringham, with Charles – a patron of the project, which has seen more than three million trees planted across the UK to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – using the occasion to send a message of thanks.
“It is hard to believe that two years have passed since my mother and I planted a tree in Windsor Great Park to mark the commencement of The Queen’s Green Canopy,” he said last week.
“As the second planting season draws to a close, and with it this vitally important initiative, I particularly wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone from across the United Kingdom who has helped to plant more than three million trees to create an enduring legacy in Queen Elizabeth’s name.
“This project has shown how simple, practical and positive gestures can make a difference, and I can think of no more fitting tribute to Her late Majesty’s 70-year reign.”
