There will be plenty of sunshine and rainbows for Carol Kirkwood as she heads into 2024. For the much-loved BBC Breakfast presenter starts the year as a newlywed, having revealed last week that she had tied the knot with her beau Steve Randall in a small, private ceremony in Buckinghamshire.

The delighted bride shared the news of her nuptials with her BBC colleagues while chatting to host Naga Munchetty and sharing beautiful images of the big day. “It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding,” she said. “We are both so incredibly happy.”

Carol, 61, later posted some photographs of the day on social media, showing her in an elegant offthe-shoulder wedding gown and carrying a simple bouquet of white flowers. She wrote next to them: “Thank you so much for all your lovely messages. We had the most perfect day. It was a tiny wedding but so romantic and intimate. A day we will never forget. We are bursting with happiness. It wasn’t a ‘secret’ wedding, just a private one.”

A VERY ROMANTIC PROPOSAL

The weather presenter and policeman Steve, 48, got engaged in 2022 but chose to keep many details of their relationship private. The couple had been friends for several years before they began a relationship, with Carol – who competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 – telling hello! last year: “I met Steve in my 50s; we were friends before we were romantically linked. He is funny, gorgeous and, also, he is really kind, thoughtful and romantic.”

And she described his romantic proposal close to their home in Berkshire. “It was a lovely sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by. Steve started fidgeting; I turned to say: ‘What’s wrong?’ He was on his knee, and he proposed.

“At first, I thought he was joking, but he said: ‘No no, I really do mean it, will you marry me?’ I said: ‘Yes!! Of course!’”
