A SPECIAL LITTLE BOY JOINS LEADING NAMES RECOGNISED BY KING
The King has recognised a number of leading UK figures in his 2024 New Year Honours List, rewarding some famous names – as well as hundreds of ordinary people – for services to fields including entertainment, charity and sport.
One of the most distinguished awards – the Companion of Honour, which is limited to 65 people at any one time – went to Dame Shirley Bassey for services to music. The singer, who turns 87 this week and has sold more than 135 million records, said she was “truly humbled”.
GOOD WORKS
Fellow singer and former The X Factor winner Leona Lewis, 38, was made an OBE in the Overseas and International Honours List for services to music and charity. “This recognition is very symbolic to me,” said the Californiabased star, who has supported charities including Teenage Cancer Trust.
Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke received an MBE, alongside her mother Jenny, for their work establishing brain-injury charity SameYou. Emilia, 37, who suffered two brain haemorrhages in her 20s, wrote on Instagram: “Still so flabbergasted and amazed… this MBE is for everyone who has and still is suffering from a brain injury.”
