When Kate Moss celebrates a landmark birthday, it’s usually pretty spectacular.

For her 40th, guests were treated to a four-day celebration in the Cotswolds that cost an estimated £100,000. And when the catwalk star turned 30, she threw a The Beautiful and Damned-themed bash at Claridge’s hotel, including a brief interlude at close friend Sam Taylor-Johnson’s house that attracted numerous noise complaints from neighbours and went on until 7.30am.

But it was an altogether more sedate affair when the British supermodel celebrated her 50th birthday last week, with just a small group of her nearest and dearest invited to an intimate gathering in Paris.

Designer Stella McCartney, makeup guru Charlotte Tilbury, actress Sadie Frost and hairstylist James Brown were among the chosen few who joined Kate’s photographer boyfriend Nikolai von Bismarck, 37, and her model daughter Lila, 21, at chic restaurant Laurent.

After dining together inside the Michelin-starred venue, the group danced to some of their favourite hits before departing at a relatively early 2am for the luxury Ritz hotel, where they were all staying.

A source close to the model said that this year’s celebrations show how much Kate, who was previously infamous for her partying lifestyle, has changed in recent years as she continues to embrace wellness and sobriety – and she wanted her party to reflect that.

“It’s a different Kate for a different decade,” the source tells hello!.. “She is still on the wagon and is really committed to looking after herself and staying healthy.

“But even though health and wellbeing are important to her, she still loves to have a party and dance the night away, and she still loves to get together with her closest friends to have a good time.

“So she got a select group of people together for an intimate gathering – she didn’t want to have an overwhelming party, like when she turned 40. She wanted it to be very close-knit and something quieter than a big bash; it was nothing like one of those events that has an afterparty, and then an after-afterparty.
