Chris Martin ‘engaged to Dakota Johnson for years’
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson, who have been together for six years, are reportedly engaged.
It is believed Chris, 47, proposed several years ago, but that the couple preferred to keep their relationship status private.
“They have been besotted with each other from day one so taking this next step was inevitable,” according to a source. “They are in no rush to plan the wedding, but are just enjoying making their commitment official.”
Dakota, 34, the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, was first spotted wearing a ring on her left hand in 2020, although friends say she doesn’t wear it all the time. She was last seen with it during her birthday celebrations last October.
This would be Devon-born Chris’s second marriage and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, with whom he has children Apple, 19, and Moses, 17, is believed to have given him and Dakota her blessing. The couple split in 2014, after almost 11 years of marriage, and finalised their divorce in 2015, although they have remained good friends.
Chris and Dakota are thought to have started dating in 2017 and now live together in a $14m (£11m) beach house in Malibu.
Although they have made a point not to speak about their relationship, Dakota has talked about her bond with Chris’s children, saying: “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.”
She also said she would consider having children of her own. “I’ve gotten to this place where I really want to experience everything that life has to offer.”
