At 7am, your iPhone bursts into life with an alarm that sets your teeth on edge. Yes, it has certainly stirred you from your slumber and ensured you’re not going to be late for work, but what if you would rather wake to something more enjoyable, such as a favourite song? With the Clock app, you can do just that, setting alarms that can use any tune you wish as an alarm tone. With just a few taps, you can select any downloaded songs from the Music app – although if you want to make use of rival services such as Spotify, you’ll sadly have to find an alternative method such as Music Alarm Clock Pro or Morning Alarm for Spotify.

Step-by-step

1 Tap alarm tab

Open the Clock app and tap the ‘Alarm’ tab, which is at the bottom of the screen. Any alarms that you have already set will be shown and they can be turned on or off.

2 Add an alarm

Either tap ‘Edit’ to alter an existing alarm or tap the ‘+’ icon in the top-right corner of the screen to set up a new one. Use the carousel to set the time and then tap ‘Sound’.

3 Find a sound

You could select a ringtone – and there are lots to choose from in the Ringtones section – but we want a song instead. Simply tap ‘Pick A Song’ from the available options.
