So, you have just got your hands on an all-new iPhone 14, eh? Which model did you go for? The standard edition, the iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 14 Pro or the iPhone 14 Pro Max? Whichever model, colour and capacity you went for, there is much to admire and explore with your new device, such as new safety and photography features that are exclusive to iPhone 14, plus the expansive new customisation and multitasking capabilities that iOS 16 brings to the party.

Over the following pages we’ll help you understand exactly what your device is capable of – from advanced digital photography to potentially saving your life if you are in a car crash or stranded out in the sticks with no hint of a cellular signal – and help you get accustomed to some of the best new features of iOS 16. These include how to personalise your Home and Lock Screens to make your iPhone 14 unmistakably yours, and the best settings and options that you need to turn on first. So unbox your new iPhone 14, hold down the Sleep/Wake button to fire it up and then let’s go…

Setting up your new iPhone

If you are a new iPhone user then you will be guided through the steps needed to set up your device when you power it on for the first time, or you can opt to transfer the settings from an existing iPhone. If you skip the latter option during the setup process then there is a way to perform this action later from the Settings app. Here’s what you need to do.

On your old iPhone, go to Settings> Apple ID>iCloud, turn on ‘iCloud Backup’ and then tap ‘Back Up Now’ to preserve all of the old settings ready to transfer.

On your new iPhone, go to Settings> General and then scroll down to the ‘Transfer or Reset iPhone’ option. Tap on it and you will see the ‘Prepare for New iPhone’ option.

Tap ‘Get Started’ and you will be able to turn on iCloud Backup, if it isn’t already on and also move data for any apps that aren’t synced with iCloud. Tap ‘Done’ to finish up.

Introducing your new iPhone

The iPhone 14 comes in four different models. We’ll be covering the Pro and Pro Max versions later in this piece, but for now we will concentrate on the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and the 6.7- inch iPhone 14 Plus. Take a look at what your new device is capable of.

Features and settings to check out first

Your new iPhone 14 will come with iOS 16 pre-installed, which is Apple’s hot-off-the-press mobile update that brings a host of amazing new features to your handset. Here are some of the slightly lesser-known features that you should look to explore first.
