THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A CORRIE FAVE…

Early days…

Born Antony Dunn, the star was brought up in Bury, and began performing at the age of five – later attending the Oldham Theatre Workshop alongside his future Corrie co-star Suranne Jones. His big break came in 1999 when he won the role of Alexander in Russell T Davies’ gay drama Queer As Folk.

Corrie beckons…

A huge Corrie fan, Antony was delighted to make a one-off appearance in 2003 as Sean, a hospital colleague of Martin Platt. “I know a few of the cast and crew, so it wasn’t as nerve-wracking as it could’ve been,” he says. Sean made a full-time return in 2004.

Big screen dream

Antony appeared in hit sitcom Absolutely Fabulous in 2001 and was due to appear in the movie version, but sadly the dates clashed with his Corrie commitments. “Jennifer Saunders very kindly wrote me into the script,” he reveals. “But the dates just couldn’t work. In my head I am in it!”

My Peter!

Antony met his partner, Peter Eccleston, behind the scenes on Corrie in 2005, and the pair have been together ever since. “We are an incredible team and Peter brings out my best side,” Antony says. “He is always looking out for me and protecting me when we’re out, while I look after him at home.”

“They said I was stereotypical. Well, you name one other character on British telly that’s like Sean. What was so refreshing was that the producers put an out, proud, screaming Manchester queen on screen – because that’s what Coronation Street should have.”
