How to log your workouts and try new exercises with SmartGym

IT WILL TAKE

10 minutes set-up, plus workout time

TRACKING YOUR WORKOUTS isn’t always easy. Apple’s Workout app doesn’t show exercises with sets and reps, while logging your gym work in an app like Notes is hardly optimal. Fortunately, there’s a better way in the form of SmartGym.

With this app, you can set your own routines or use AI-designed workouts made by SmartGym. Over time, it learns and adjusts based on your sessions. Each exercise features an animation and a detailed explanation to help you do it correctly, and you’ll see the number of reps, sets and rest duration as you go along.

Everything can be linked to Apple Health and you never miss out on closing your rings. There’s also a great companion Apple Watch app, so you don’t even need your iPhone when you’re pumping iron.

SmartGym’s free version grants access to two routines, 10 histories and two measures. Subscriptions start at $6.99 a month, and we’ll cover some of the premium features in this tutorial.

1 Log your gear

When you first load SmartGym, it will ask you what equipment you will use, either at home or in the gym. To update your selection, tap the More tab, then tap Available Equipment under the Smart Trainer heading.

2 Create a workout

To start, tap the “+” in the top-right corner. You’ll have three choices: create a workout from scratch; let the app’s Smart Trainer make one for you; or specify muscles you want to target and let the Smart Trainer do the rest.

3 Start from scratch

Tap Create From Scratch. Enter your workout name and goal, then tap Add Exercise. Choose from the app’s extensive workout library, enter details like reps and rest time, then tap Save. Add as many exercises as you like.

4 Robo workout

Now try tapping “+” then Trust Us. Choose how many days a week you want to do the workout. You can change your experience level and exercise goal under Options. When you’re ready, tap Add Workout for an AI-crafted plan.

5 Tailor-made

Finally, tap “+” then Create For Muscles. You can pick full, upper or lower body to choose different muscle groups (tap a muscle region to add or remove it). Specify workout goals and duration, then tap Add Workout.
