Boasting a similarly impressive specification to its recent Class 20, 37 and 47 releases, Bachmann Branchline’s new Class 31 will also be available with a new electro-magnetic coupling system.

Building on the excellent Farish ‘31’, Bachmann will be offering a Brush Type 2 in ‘OO’ for the first time, with the tooling designed to allow a wide range of detail differences to be observed, including the early Class 30 variant and later refurbished sub-classes, including the ETH-fitted Class 31/4.

Exterior detail will reflect both the original Mirrlees and later English Electric power units, as will the interior appointments, visible through the engine room windows. All models feature enhanced interior and exterior lighting functions, including the option to switch between single and dual tail lights, while a high-quality drive system will deliver power to all six axles.

Equipped with a PluX22 DCC interface, the Class 30 and 31 will be offered in DCC-ready, DCC sound and DCC sound‐fitted deluxe formats. The deluxe models will boast working roof fans, tinted glazing and will pioneer Bachmann’s new DCC-operated auto-release coupling system.

Fitted at both ends, small electro-magnets allow hands-free uncoupling of standard tension locks, with the system offering a full, prototypical uncoupling procedure. At the touch of a button on your DCC controller, the locomotive buffers up to the stock to release tension in the couplings, then activates the electro-magnets to lift the hooks.
