Another month has flown by, punctuated by my annual visit to the Model Rail Scotland exhibition which, as always, didn’t disappoint. A host of excellent layouts was on display and plenty of new model projects were available for scrutiny, thanks to all of the main manufacturers being in attendance – turn to page 11 for my full report.

I also greatly enjoyed the company of members of the Scottish Diesel & Electric Group on an entertaining night out in Glasgow. As usual, my trip north of the border was extended to include plenty of mileage on the ScotRail system, plus a couple of ferry rides to the glorious isles of Bute and Arran. Pardon the pun, but I still harbour dreams of modelling Wemyss Bay station and ferry terminal…

Just before my jaunt to Glasgow, I was in Aberystwyth, accompanying the team from Revolution Trains on a visit to the Vale of Rheidol (VoR) Railway. We were treated to a guided tour of the locomotive workshops, affording us the opportunity to examine a revised engineering prototype of our ‘OO9’ Rheidol tank locomotive, comparing it to the real thing and gaining vital feedback from those in the know.
