Let ’s quickly get one thing straight, Dyfi bike park is actually pronounced dove-ee, so it makes total sense its new rhyming red trail is called Lovey Dyfi. With that cleared up, let ’s dig into this brand-new red-graded track that ’s the longest trail so far in the park.

Dan Atherton and the team have spent almost a year clearing out the hillside, all the way from the dropoff point under the shadow of Gee Atherton’s notorious Ridgeline, right back down to the café.

It ’s designed as the easiest trail at Dyfi – for less advanced riders to enjoy and also to potentially open up the park to those riders intimidated by the scale and technicality of some of the harder tracks. Personally, we don’t blame ’em: Dyfi is not for the faint of heart.

This being Dyfi we’re talking about though, Dan was never going to put in a trail that wasn’t also fun for advanced riders, pros, or his own family for that matter.

After all, there’s a reason why the downhill elite come here for their winter training, and why some of the UK’s best riders have upped sticks to live and work in North Wales.

Lovey Dyfi is therefore designed with everything rollable and no nasty surprises, but seeing as it flows down the same part of the hill as the start of the black-graded 50 Hits, and Super Swooper (the only other red trail), it ’s also possible to ride it incredibly fast if you want to.

IT’S THE LONGEST TRAIL SO FAR IN THE PARK
Long and lovely, Dyfi’s new red trail is friendly, fast and super fun
Expansive berms of every type, but all are fast and safe

Dare to go brakeless down the long steep plunges and the huge, diggerbuilt berms will catch you. Turns and hits are linked into autobahn sections while the rippling rollers that seemed so innocent on your first cruise down swell into repeated huge wave crests that launch you at warp speeds once you start to let it rip.

IT’S PERFECT FOR AN INITIAL COUPLE OF RUNS FOR NEW VISITORS TO GET THEIR EYE IN

It ’s probably not recommended for anyone to go at German motorway speeds on their first run, let alone the virgin bike park riders Lovey Dyfi aims to attract. But we can assure you (or just watch the launch video for the trail) that you can achieve over 10 metres in distance before touchdown while remaining close to the ground off some of these rollers, and it ’s a ton of fun. There are also multiple fly-offs into berms that hook you, and then berms that drift you, as well as huge Dyfi signature tabletops at the mid-point of the trail, with multiple-sized lips the choice of which dictates the height and distance of your orbit.
