We’re Wishing…

Some male celebrities let money and fame go to their heads (looking at you, Premier League footballers!) so it’s important to acknowledge the good guys out there. Step forward Coldplay’s Chris Martin – singer songwriter, climate activist, doting dad and all-round decent person – who celebrates his 47th birthday on March 2. Many happy returns, Chris!

We’re Starstruck…

Looking ahead to the Academy Awards on March 10! There are lots of prizes given out for cinema these days but nothing beats the Oscars. Heavily-nominated films such as Oppenheimer, Barbie, Maestro and Poor Things are sure to carry off a few awards, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Past Lives, a beautifully melancholic romance that stole our hearts, and is nominated for Best Picture, amongst others.

We’re Toasting…

All things Welsh, as we celebrate St David’s Day on March 1! Whether it’s the rugby team, male voice choirs, charismatic actors (Michael Sheen, Anthony Hopkins and Christian Bale) or the rugged coastline, there’s something undeniably appealing about the valleys and mountains of this stunning corner of the UK. We say Lechyd Da, Wales! – “cheers!”, for all the non-Welsh speakers

We’re Writing…

You may even get a written reply. Treat yourself to some stationery – we love this set from Sleepy Bee Studio (£29.95) – and get writing! notonthehighstreet.com/sleepybeestudio

We Lists…

Now that spring has sprung and we’re out and about again, breathing in lots of fresh air, we take a look at the favourite smells in the UK, according to a survey by decorating brand Harris. No surprise that food makes up quite a large part!

Freshly-baked bread

Bacon

Freshly-cut grass

Coffee

Cakes baking in the oven

The seaside

Freshly-washed clothes

A Sunday roast

Fish and chips

Fresh flowers
