WHILE THE SUVS OF TODAY LOOK very different from those of 30 or 40 years ago, one model has completely bucked the trend. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class continues to be a hot commodity despite, or maybe because of, its iconic boxy body.

The new-generation 2025 Mercedes G-Class takes the hallmarks of its original 1979 design and amplifies them for the new era of electrification, technology and luxury.

A new grille, fresh front bumper and more tilted A-pillar are the biggest exterior aesthetic changes to the model. Twilight Blue Metallic paint, a Mercedes fan favorite, will be offered on the model for the first time. Buyers can opt for wheels in sizes from 19 to 22 inches.

Mercedes has filled out the G family with a powertrain flavor for everyone. Its G 500 is powered by mild-hybrid energy and designed to maximize fuel efficiency. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 gets its oomph from a 577-horsepower V8 combined with an electric generator. A new, all-electric G-Class model will also come to market.

Upmarket versions of the SUV have enhanced stability support to ensure the top-heavy G stays planted on the road or trail, even under extreme acceleration. Mercedes has engineered the G 550 to climb up a 100 percent grade, ford up to 27.6 inches of water and be stable on slopes of up to 35 degrees.
