EVENT OF THE MONTH

Triumph & MG weekend of fun!

For many years the Triumph Sports Six Club (TSSC) held its annual International Weekend at the Bingley Showground near Stafford, before moving to a variety of venues. This year the club is set to return to Staffordshire for its biggest event of the season, which will take place in conjunction with the TR Register, the Stag Owners’ Club and the MG Car Club.

TSSC director Jane Rowley told us: ‘We’re a big club, but it became apparent a while ago that to put on the best events that we can for our members, we’re better off teaming up with other big clubs. That way we can share the cost of doing something really special and there’s so much more for everyone to see and do as a result. Also, our members get to see cars and meet people who they wouldn’t necessarily come into contact with.’

Joining forces means more variety on show.

This year’s Triumph and MG weekend will take place on August 19-21. While the focus is on it being a social weekend, there will be a concours competition, lots of stuff to buy in the trade area, autosolos will be running and there will also be live music on the Friday and Saturday evenings. The Live Arena will be in action all weekend, with owners chatting about their cars, and there’s even a dog show for those who prefer four legs to four wheels.

A ROYAL APPOINTMENT

Douglas Newton has organised the classic vehicle section of the Egham Royal Show for 35 years and he’d rather like some PC readers to bolster the numbers at this year’s bash, which will take place on August 27-28. Says Douglas: ‘Entries range from the Thirties to the late Eighties and include vehicles of every size and shape.

Each entrant gets a brass plaque and there are also small cash prizes for the various classes that are judged. The show attracts around 5000 visitors over the two days and has a good variety of things for the family to do and see.’ Entry is a fiver per car and all its occupants for the whole weekend; more at eghamroyalshow. org.uk.

Silverstone Classic

Time to race!

This year’s Silverstone Classic is set for August 26-28, and as usual it’s going to be one of the major highlights of the year for many. As well as the usual circuit racing and club displays, food is at the fore this year, with the new Tasting Tent. Silverstone Auctions will be selling lots of classics in its annual auction, Rick Astley and Sister Sledge will be performing, and Terry Grant will be doing stunt driving throughout the weekend. As it’s Platinum Jubilee year, this year’s theme is The Best of British, with the Austin Seven’s centenary being marked as well as the diamond anniversaries of the MGB, Ford Cortina, Lotus Elan and AC Cobra.
