Pumping gas

C-OOC tanked up at Tatton

This summer the Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club came up with the idea of a period garage theme for its stand at the Tatton Park Classic Car Spectacular over the Jubilee weekend. Chairman Eddie Foster said: ‘We recreated the look of a Sixties car dealership called Jubilee Motors, based on old photos of period service stations. We had a couple of reproduction petrol pumps, complemented with pump attendant jackets. Visitors were invited to take selfies while 'pumping gas' and the kids were amazed to learn that it used to be a real job! It all went down a storm and was a great way to entice visitors onto the stand.’ There is more at co-oc.org/jubilee-motors.

Oldies, but goldies!

ON THE RUN

The world's longest-running automotive event is set to return on November 6, when the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run sets off from Hyde Park. Last year's event attracted almost 300 entries, which marked 125 years of the event; this year the figure is likely to exceed 400, as overseas entrants clamber to take part. The day will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the first ever British victory in international motor sport, when SF Edge drove his 6.5-litre Napier from Paris to Innsbruck, beating all-comers. Edge's Napier will be taking in the 60-mile route, along with its two sister cars, one with a 7.7-litre engine and the other with an 11.1-litre unit. Brilliant fun in Birmingham

A family affair is promised at the NEC this year

It's almost that time of year again, when the classic year draws to a close. Thankfully we'll all able to see the year out on a high when the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show takes place at Birmingham's NEC on November 11-13. The theme for this year's weekend is

'Part of the family', so expect to see plenty of imaginative displays among the 3000+ (yes, really!) classics that will be taking part. While the NEC show tends to stick to a tried-and-tested formula, more of which in a minute, there are several new initiatives for 2022. One is a live detailing bay from Meguiar's, while both restomods and alternative fuels for your classic will be showcased. If you like your classics on the XL side, live music will be playing from Paul McCartney's 1972 'Wings Over Europe' tour bus. If you prefer just two wheels on your classics, Motul has pulled together 50 years' worth of Suzuki racing bikes.

Whatever it is that you're into, you'll find something you like!

Meanwhile, Deputy editor Walshe will be rebuilding his 2CV on the live stage, plus there's a huge autojumble, the Practical Classics Restoration Theatre, cars for sale, the Lancaster Pride of Ownership display and the Sporting Bears Dream Rides. To keep abreast of developments and to buy
