Charity heroes

Craig Cheetham on the wonderful people in the classic world

One of my recent highlights was the opportunity to attend the 60th birthday bash for the MGB at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon.

Not only was it a fantastic way of seeing the classic car world coming together in the way it does best, but it was incredible to see such a strong charity presence there as well. The MG Car Club had given prominent billing to the UK Sepsis Trust – its benefactor of choice for 2022 – and while the official numbers aren’t in yet, I witnessed several donations being made in the 15 minutes or so I spent chatting with the MGCC’s General Manager, Mike Stafford.

To see such selflessness in action is a truly life-affirming thing to witness. Even when times are hard – and they are for many at the moment – we still find time to make life better for others.

Perhaps even more inspiring, though, is our news-in-brief story this month about enthusiasts in Brixham, Devon, who have clubbed together to raise money towards a local child’s prosthetic leg. That’s what these pages are about and we’re always on the lookout for inspiring folk, so please keep us posted on your charitable endeavours.

Speaking of which, if you’ll forgive me my own indulgence for a moment, by the time you read this I will (hopefully) have just returned from Monte Carlo at the wheel of a rather tired MG ZT on the annual Bangers4BEN charity rally. You can view my fundraising attempts at giving.ben.org.uk/pf/craig-- cheetham and, while I’d never expect a penny, every little really does help.

Got a charity event coming up or know a hero?

It’s time we give people the kudos they deserve!

‘Helen’s short-term memory is fading and dementia is taking hold of her mind and body,’ said Jackie. ‘This terrible condition is devastating the Stewart family, as it does for millions of families living with dementia around the world.'

RAD is a global charity, founded to fund pioneering research into the prevention and cure of the illness. It exists to raise and allocate funds that accelerate global research and de
