Forecourt nostalgia Quite the story behind this family-owned garage.

EMAIL OF THE MONTH

I was recently shown Danny's Team Adventure article about his trip to Beaulieu and the stop-off at our garage. So, I thought I’d contact you with some information. The garage was built by my grandfather James Hatch in 1921 after he recovered from losing his leg in WWI when his tank got hit by a shell. He started off selling bicycles and did general repairs. In 1928 he started selling petrol and, from 1948, diesel. He also employed a mechanic for car repairs. We are still open for petrol, diesel and red Diesel and, as in 1928, we still serve the customers! We started buying from Burmah in the Eighties and they gave us a sign. But now the Burmah name has been swallowed up along with Castrol under the BP umbrella.

PRISMA TIME IS COMING

Let me start with a huge thank you to all involved in your amazing magazine. It is a wonderful read – not biased or snobby and not simply a one make or model magazine. I'm in the market for a simple basic MIG welder, which I need for basic repairs to my Vauxhall Cavalier MkIII Ethos. It has been sat a while! I also own two Lancia Prismas, both of which will be restored. It would be great to see more YouTube content from you on your channel. I realise it all takes time, though!

You couldn't make it up!

Spooky coincidence

I took my Rover SD1 Vitesse for its last car meeting in February 2022 before selling it to another Rover enthusiast. Eight months later, I eventually bought an MG ZTT and started viewing various media sites and came across a photo of my recent purchase at the same car meeting on the same day, but the previous owner had left prior to my arrival. Not just that, but on my arrival in my Vitesse, I took the same parking space! Spooky!
