Two great British brands celebrate centenaries

More than 400 classics will come to Stony Stratford.

COME AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

If you want to start off the new year by doing something good for local charities, you need to get along to Vintage Stony. One of the many volunteers behind the event is Adrian Cole who told us: ‘Vintage Stony has been going for 13 years, and it has grown to the point that we welcome more than 400 classics into Stony Stratford, just north of Milton Keynes. Entrants come from all over the UK, and we always get a decent selection of pre- and post-war classic cars as well as motorcycles. The day runs between 9.30am and 2pm, and at mid-day we will hold a minute's noise in memory of event supporter Simon Diffey, who was killed in an accident this year. Our chosen charity for the 2023 Vintage Stony is Willen Hospice in Milton Keynes. It would be great to see as many Practical Classics readers there as possible.’ There's more at vintagestony.co.uk.

Not a dead loss…

Festival of the Dead might sound rather gruesome, but all is not quite as it seems. Event organiser Mark Wibberley explains: ‘Earlier this year I hit on the idea of running a classic event purely for defunct car marques, with anything welcome as long as the brand no longer exists. The gathering now has a name, a date (July 2) and a venue: Burghley House in Lincolnshire. I'm hoping to get 500 cars there, but there’s the capacity for twice this. Entry costs £12.50 per car which includes half-price entry to the house. Any surplus money will go to a veterans’ or motor sport charity (TBA). It’s early days – more info will be announced online at festivalofthedead. uk in the coming months.’

EVENT OF THE MONTH

Club collaboration will ensure this is a spectacular and unmissable occasion.

The 2023 season is set to be huge for two of the biggest marques in the classic car world – MG and Triumph – as they're both celebrating their centenary. Despite there being friendly rivalry between the two brands for decades, for a while now some of the UK's biggest owners' clubs have worked together to put on big events. Unfortunately, last year's MG & Triumph weekend at the Bingley Showground in Staffordshire was cancelled because of disappointing advance bookings, but this year the MG Car Club, Triumph Sports Six Club and TR Register are aiming to bounce back with a truly special weekend at Silverstone on June 10-11, which will also involve other owners' groups involved with the marques, such as Club Triumph.

An extension of the annual MG Live! extravaganza that has been held by the MG Car Club at Silverstone for several years, the weekend will see several huge clubs collaborate for two days of track action, music, concours, displays and more.
