Bust the New Year blues with some retail therapy
HANDY! There's little more monotonous than drilling out chewed up screws. Save the aggro and use the right driver! Not one little bit – many!
23-PIECE BIT SET £29.57
There’s nothing sexy about a bit set, but one thing which makes this new offering stand out is the clever little fold-out case that it comes in. When folded it’s a neatly compact design, and when opened up it can be laid flat or hung up on a wall. Simple… but we like that. Inside you get a magnetic bit holder plus various Phillips, Flat, PoziDrive Hex and Star bits with 16x 1/4 in shanks, and four longer Philips screwdriver bits with quick chuck ends. They’re made from impact-grade steel, and compatible with any cordless drill or electric screwdriver. Part no: 8424.

Keep moisture out of your petrol
CASTROL ETHA-GARD £14.95 PER 250 ML
If modern petrol is causing you grief – or if you just don’t know if you can trust it in your classic – this petrol additive will be worth investigating. It’s an ethanol stabiliser, designed for E5 and E10 blends and suitable for cars with or without a catalytic convertor. The idea is that it counter-acts the hydroscopic (water absorbing) nature of ethanol, preventing moisture and subsequent acidity from ethanoic acid in your fuel. It also contains Octimise Plus friction modifier, which claims to increase acceleration by three per cent and fuel economy by two per cent. Stocking up? You can get six for the price of five at the link below.

A little pick-me-up
MAGNETIC FLEXIBLE PICK-UP TOOL £11.98
If you’ve ever dropped a points screw inside a distributor, or a washer behind your dashboard, or a nut down a carburettor, you’ll appreciate the role that this could play in your toolkit. Sometimes nothing beats a magnet on a stick – unless it’s a very thin magnet on a very flexible stick. This new design by Laser (part no: 7026) has a flexible shaft (30cm long) that retains its shape once bent into the required curvature. That should make it ideal for retrieving metal from around glow plug or spark plug apertures, or potentially even reaching through them into a cylinder. The magnet is only 4mm wide, so it could be poked down into certain component housings too. Nifty.

MGs, Triumphs, Lotuses… many rear-wheel drive classics benefit from upgrading to Ford’s five-speed ‘Type 9’ gearbox – also called a 'Type N' in some workshop manuals. Getting your hands on a good one has now been made more straightforward, as Burton Power has made its reconditioned Type 9 available for outright sale (part no: GBT9150) without the need for the customer to exchange an existing gearbox. It’s offered with standard gear ratios (3.65/1.97/1.37/1:1/0.82) and was an original fitment on variou
