Coventry-based event ready to roll once more

Classics at Carew

Welsh sunshine came out in '22!

There are certain must-do events for each member of the PC team, and one of James Walshe's is the annual show of the Pembrokeshire Classic Car Club. The group's Peter Badham told us: ‘For the past 20 years we have held our show at Scolton Manor, but we needed more space, so for 2023 we're moving to the WWII airfield at Carew (SA70 8SX).

We're expecting upwards of 650 vehicles to take part in the event, which is on June 4. The club celebrates its 40th birthday this year, so our annual show is an extra-special event. We're looking forward to seeing as many PC readers there as possible, plus James in his 2CV.’ See pembrokeshire-classic-car-club.co.uk for more.

A CLASSIC STONY

Summer bash to delight fans

It's a street of dreams in Bucks!

Twice each year, Stony Stratford near Milton Keynes, becomes a hive of classic car activity. Vintage Stony takes place on New Year's Day, then in summer it's the turn of Classic Stony. This year's summer bash is on June 4 and one of those behind it is Adrian Cole, who told us: ‘This is a free event and we're expecting 400 classic cars and motorcycles to be there. This year MG, Triumph and Bentley all have big birthdays, so we're expecting a good turnout of those marques. Organised by local volunteers the festival is backed by local traders and sponsors. Most independent stores in the town will be open for food and drink, plus there will be additional opportunities to purchase automotive memorabilia.’ Log on to classicstony.co.uk for more information.

The poor folks behind Motofest Coventry had two years of Covid to contend with, and once that was out of the way, in autumn 2022, it looked as though the UK's biggest free motoring festival was set to return with a bang. But then HM The Queen passed away just a few days before the event was set to open, and so once again it was canned. As a result, it's now four years since the full-fat Motofest Coventry has taken place, although there was a slimmed-down version in 2021. But hopefully all the stars will align for the 2023 weekend, which will be taking place on June 3-4 in the centre of Coventry. It isn't a classic car event as such; that's just a small part of what's on offer. Instead, it's a full-on family weekend that's a celebration of all things internal combustion, although this year's theme of ‘Past, Present and Future’ means there will be the odd EV taking part, too.

The biggest draw for classic car fans will be the concours in the cathedral ruins, plus there will be the usual display of cars in the city centre; just turn up and you'll be directed into place. Meanwhile, there will also be racing on the ring road, drifting and autotest arenas.
