Cheddar cheese has to be one of the UK’s most popular exports, and The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company, in Cheddar, Somerset, is the only place it is now made in the village.

It has a visitor centre, with a dairy and a display of the tools used in historic cheesemaking over the years. Visitors can observe the production process and buy delicious cheesy souvenirs.

Cheddar Bridge Touring Park is an adults-only site with spotless facilities, and best of all, it’s within easy walking distance of spectacular Cheddar Gorge.

You’ll find brilliant breakfast and lunch offerings, and homemade cakes, in the modern, laid-back café on Bishopthorpe Road. Known fondly by the locals as Bishy Road, this is also home to a wide choice of excellent shops, cafés and food vendors.

In 2022, acclaimed chef Simon Rogan’s Cumbrian delight, L’Enclume, was the only new restaurant in the UK to win a third Michelin star. It’s located in an 800-year-old former blacksmith’s, with Rogan’s nearby 12-acre farm supplying much of the produce.

The tasting menu is available for both lunch and dinner and costs £250, with signature wine pairing an additional £150.

Greaves Farm Caravan Park makes a great place to stay; while there, you will be able to enjoy the very best of the Lake District landscape.
