CUSTOMER Service Assistant Wedian Rajab described the moment he knew Staines had won the Medium Station of the Year prize at RAIL’s National Rail Awards: “When it was announced, it was an extremely elating victory making us all feel rewarded as a team. We have been acknowledged for all of our hard work and effort that goes into the exceptional customer service that we provide here at Staines on a daily basis.”

Melanie Harvey, Great Western Railway station manager for Mid-Devon, spoke of the positive publicity Okehampton had received after being named Small Station of the Year.

“Having our award on display at the station makes everyone in the town and surrounding area feel very proud that their railway has national recognition as the best small station in the country.”

This year, it could be your turn to enjoy the honour and recognition that comes from winning a National Rail Award - enter the 2024 awards now.

The awards celebrate the achievements of the railway people and companies that demonstrate innovation and excellence.

Individual success is hailed by the Outstanding Personal Contribution and Lifesaver categories, both of which are firm crowd favourites.

Network Rail Chairman Lord Peter Hendy said: “The National Rail Awards is a brilliant event - a high point of the rail industry’s annual calendar.

“My favourite part is the acknowledgement of the personal achievements of ordinary workers who have done extraordinary things. But there is something for every part of the railway, and I’d encourage everyone in the rail sector to consider entering the 2024 awards.”

This year, the NRA judges are keen to see more entries from the light rail, underground and tram sectors, which have been under-represented over the past few awards ceremonies.

Sir Michael Holden, managing director at Coledale Consulting and an NRA judge, said: “The NRAs are for everybody, not just the main line operators.

“We want to see entries from the underground, metro, light rail and tram sectors - you have as much right to be celebrated at the NRAs as anyone else. We are ready to receive your entries!”

The judges are also keen to stress that the awards are not just for the largest suppliers. Small and medium-sized businesses who can demonstrate their excellence and innovation will compete on an even footing with entries from bigger organisations.

This year’s National Rail Awards ceremony takes place on September 12 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
