This was a fascinating page-turner from start to finish. The characters were interesting, funny and sometimes childish! And it showed how judgmental people can be of same gender relationships such as Christian and Neil’s in the novel. The characters had different motives for killing Miriam, but you’re kept guessing until the very end.

I look forward to Maz Evans’s next book.

I couldn’t stop smiling as I read this book. The interaction between Miriam and Winnie is hilarious, and their evolving friendship is heart-warming. Throughout the story, Miriam learns how her life-choices affected others. But she realises it’s never too late to change and help others — even from the other side. I highly recommend this book.

This month’s Book Club read is a funny and unique take on a whodunnit

Over My Dead Body by Maz Evans

Maz Evans has had a successful career writing books for a young audience. But hitting middle age, certain frustrations inspired her to write her first novel for grown-ups.

Maz says: ‘Much of this story was inspired by noticing that the further I progressed into middle age, the more people I wanted to murder on a semi-regular basis! A combination of personal ethics and HRT have taken care of most of my homicidal urges, so I decided to channel the rest into something creative and write my first murder mystery.’ The book centres around Dr Miriam Price, who is sure she’s been murdered, but was too plastered to remember who did it.

She is only able to communicate with her nemesis Winnie, and together they’ll have to whittle down the suspects to get to the truth and save Miriam from 50 years in limbo.

This is The Thursday Murder Club… with a hangover!
