When docs operated to stop my periods, I was left with a very cheeky reminder…

Sighing, I added another pack of sanitary towels to my shopping basket.

For weeks, I’d been experiencing painful, irregular periods and my GP had ordered an ultrasound.

‘You’ve got fibroids,’ he’d said, explaining that they were non-cancerous tumours that formed in the womb. ‘Lots of women have them.’

I’d had the coil fitted to ease the bleeding but there was no let-up.

When my period came, I had to wear two or three pads at a time.

One day, I got caught out wearing white jeans and it looked as if I’d murdered someone.

Soon, I was too nervous to leave the house.

Then months later, my periods just stopped.

‘Look how bloated my tummy is!’ I said to my partner Daniel.

I looked four months gone, but pregnancy tests came back negative. After a couple of months, my periods came back, but now the pain felt worse than labour — and, as a mum-of-two, I knew all about that!

One night, after bleeding for 32 days straight, it was so bad I completely blacked out.

Daniel rushed me to hospital, and I was booked in to see a gynaecologist. But the appointment got delayed due to Covid. Back home, I felt too bloated to eat.

Scarily, I dropped from a size 12 to a size 4, yet my tummy was still huge.
