On p42 of this issue we round up some of the greatest treks in the Alps, followed by two features (Peaks of the Balkans Trail, p48, and Italy’s Val Grande, p54) exploring Alpine regions that get a bit less attention, but are fascinating and beautiful places, nevertheless. This issue also sees the results of The Great Outdoors Reader Awards 2022 – our democratically voted annual celebration of the best people, places and businesses in the outdoor world (p62). As ever, it’s our pleasure and privilege to run these awards; and this year’s winners reaffirm that we have a thriving and inspiring outdoor culture we can be proud of.
