Reap the rewards! The theme of risk and reward runs through this issue. In our lead feature we head out on Blencathra with the good folks of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team to get an insight into mountain safety from the point of view of the expert volunteers who respond when things don’t go to plan (p32), whilst on p20 we take a look at Britain’s accident ‘black spots’. But, ultimately, the cornerstone of avoiding trouble and enjoying yourself outdoors is good navigation; so on p54 we give some essential tips for newbies, and in our gear section our expert testers take a look at some important digital navigation aids – mapping apps (p68) and smartphones (p72).
