DEBBIE BLISS

THIS SWEET layette for babies aged from birth to 12 months features simple diamond-patterned stranded colourwork in neutral shades, paired with a handsome mustard colour. The set, designed by Debbie Bliss, comprises a yoked cardigan worked bottom up, a hat with earflaps, and a pair of little socks. They’re all knitted in Debbie’s super-soft and machine-washable Baby Cashmerino yarn, which is available in a huge choice of colours.

CARDIGAN BACK

Using 3mm needles and yarn D, cast on 63 (67:71:75) sts. Rib row 1 (RS): P1, (K1, P1) to end. Cut yarn D, join yarn MC. Rib row 2: K1, (P1, K1) to end. These 2 rows form the rib. Work a further 4 (4:6:6) rows in rib.

Change to 3.25mm needles. Beg with a K row, work 28 (32:38:42) rows in st st, ending with a P row.

SHAPE FOR YOKE

First side Row 1: K24, w&t. Row 2: P to end. Row 3: K20, w&t. Row 4: P to end. Row 5: K16, w&t. Row 6: P to end.

Row 7: K12, w&t.
Row 8: P to end.
Row 9: K8, w&t.

Row 13: K across all sts, working wraps and

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 3 (4:5:6) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 57 (59:61:63) sts. Next row: K2, skpo, K to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2.

55 (57:59:61) sts.

Next row: P to end.

Rep the last 2 rows 7 (8:9:10) times. 41 sts. Leave these sts on a holder.

LEFT FRONT

Using 3mm needles and yarn D, cast on 30 (32:34:36) sts. Rib row: (K1, P1) to end. This row forms the rib. Cut yarn D, join yarn MC. Work a further 5 (5:7:7) rows in rib.

Change to 3.25mm needles. Beg with a K row, work 28 (32:38:42) rows in st st, ending with a P row.
